Victoria United FC’s president Nkwain Valentine has said his club has been struggling to win home matches because a spell has been cursed on the team.
The controversial Nkwain, masterminder of the club’s first domestic title triumph made the declaration on Sunday after his club fell to Colombe of Dja by 1-2 in a hotly-contested 2024 Cameroon Super Cup fixture in Douala.
Despite losing the Super Cup, the president remained optimistic during his reflection about the coming season amidst worries of a worrying home form which he blames on locals.
“Alot of black magic is happening but I’m going to conquer it. I have played 12 matches between Middle Farms and Centenary stadium (Limbe) and have not not won any. This is pure black magic, and it exists in football,” Nkwain revealed.
The president who has pride himself as the sole driver of their domestic championship triumph last season went further to claim ethnic lines account for the campaign against the club.
“I know my people hate me because I’m not a South Westerner. I’m from the North West,” he added before promising to handle the situation with some very daring words which have been classed segregatory by many.
“I’m going to face the fight. I will win matches in that field, even if I have to give my life, I will win matches there,” President Valentine Nkwain concluded.
Victoria United FC are currently on a run of four home games without a win in Limbe, with the last home win being a 3-0 win against Fovu on December 30 last year. Before then their went on a run of six home matches without a home win.
Claims about the club being bewitched can’t be overlooked given some of the daring outings of the president in the past, plus past accusations from other clubs against Victoria United FC.
It’s unclear if this pattern is influenced by some spirituality but it’s clear Victoria United staff and management desperately need to better their form at home, especially as the new format of the championship doesn’t provide the playoffs format through which they made up for their blemishes last season.
Victoria United will open their 2024/25 season at home to YOSA of Bamenda at the Middle Farms stadium in Limbe.
The Limbe based club will compete with 15 others in their title defense in just their second season in the top-flight.
