Panthère du Ndé edged a tense encounter against Canon Yaoundé with a 2–1 victory in Bandjoun, as three penalties ultimately decided the outcome on Match Day Eight of the Elite One championship. In a contest shaped by discipline and composure from the spot, the hosts held their nerve to claim a valuable three points at the Fotso Victor Stadium.
The home side made the brighter start and were rewarded in the 13th minute when David Ngondo calmly converted from the penalty spot after Canon were adjudged to have fouled inside the area. The early breakthrough gave Panthère confidence, and they controlled much of the first half, limiting Canon’s attacking rhythm while probing for openings.
Canon responded after the break and found their equaliser in the 57th minute, also from twelve yards. Loïc Ako Assomo stepped up and made no mistake from the penalty spot, restoring parity and setting up a finely balanced contest heading into the final half-hour.
With both sides pushing for a winner, the decisive moment arrived in the 71st minute when Panthère were awarded their second penalty of the afternoon. Georges Mbarga Atedzoe showed composure under pressure to dispatch his effort, sending the home supporters into celebration and swinging the momentum firmly back in Panthère’s favour.
Canon pressed in the closing stages in search of another leveller, but Panthère remained organised and resolute to see out the victory. The result strengthens the hosts’ position in the standings, while Canon will reflect on missed opportunities in a match where fine margins — and spot-kick precision — proved decisive.
