Switzerland edged past Cameroon to secure a 1-0 victory in Group G, as the Cameroonian-born Bree Embolo scored for Switzerland on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at the Al Janoub Stadium.
The Indomitable lions were unfortunate to lose, after an enterprising display from Bavaria’s talisman Maxime Choupo Moting.
The former Schalke 04 goal poacher struck early, in the second half (48th minutes), though captain Vincent Aboubakar and their mates had the chances on the break. The Switzerland team always looked more dangerous and more likely to grab a win.
Captain Granit Xhaka and their mates struggled in the first half, in the face of a ferocious Indomitable lions line-up and ought to have gone behind with Choupo Moting and Bryan Mbeumo, all missing a litany of goal chances.
The lead weaken Cameroon and the Swiss had chances of increasing the score, only for the experienced and talented Andre Onana to execute some scintillating saves from Ruben Vargas. While Embolo and substitute Haris Seferovic were denied by the last defending.
Team Cameroon has lost eight successive games at the World Cup, finals. But succeeded in showcasing some impressive play.
