Diego Godin and Federico Velverde hit the post for Uruguay as they played a zero-all tie with South Korea in Group H.

Uruguayan center-back Diego Godín, who is playing in his fourth World Cup, crashed a header off the inside of the post in the first half.

Midfielder Federico Valverde, amid a good season at Real Madrid, almost sent home a rocket of an effort in the 90th minute that instead came off the post.

South Korea had its wasted chances, most notably an open look at the edge of the six-yard box skied over the goal by striker Hwang Ui-jo.

An absorbing first half that brought chances for both teams to take hold of the game.

In the second half, South Korea began to take control of the contest but could not break down a sold Uruguayan defense.

Heung-min Son was denied just as he was about to pull the trigger by a diving Jose Maria Gimenez. Substitute Cho Gue-Sung spun and shot wide from outside the box with 10 minutes to go.

Uruguay largely settled for long shots though Federico Valverde very nearly made the most of one, smacking an effort against the post as the clock ran down.
