Cameroon head coach Jean-Baptiste Bisseck says his team must learn from their 2-1 defeat to Algeria and respond with more precision and discipline when they meet again in next week’s return leg in Douala.

The Indomitable Lionesses fell behind early at the Miloud Hadefi Stadium in Oran, where Ghoutia Karchouni and Marine Dafeur struck in the first half to give Algeria a deserved lead. Nchout Njoya Ajara’s late penalty in stoppage time offered Cameroon a slim lifeline, but the evening was largely shaped by a red card to defender Claudia Dabda, who was sent off for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity after pulling down an Algerian forward clear on goal.

Despite playing with ten players for over half an hour, Bisseck’s side showed resilience, but the coach was quick to credit Algeria’s superior organisation and technique.

“It’s true that the result today is not positive for us, and I think we had in front of us a very good Algerian team that is improving,” Bisseck said post-match. “We’re a bit disappointed with the result, but we can’t completely reject it because we managed to come back and score.”

Bisseck, whose team has been in a rebuilding phase, admitted that Algeria’s tactical balance and composure in possession made the difference on the night.

“They have a good tactical and technical structure,” he continued. “We can’t be fully satisfied, but considering we played with ten, we still showed character. We’ll analyze things, make corrections, and prepare better for the return leg.”

The coach also highlighted the mutual respect he shares with his Algerian counterpart, noting that both emerged from the same French coaching system — a connection that shaped the evenly matched tactical contest.

“I know their coach well; we come from the same French football school,” he said. “We understand the kind of tactical battle this is, and we’ll give more in the return match to go for qualification.”

Cameroon now face a must-win scenario in Douala on October 28 if they are to reach their 13th consecutive Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals. With Nchout Ajara leading the line and the home crowd behind them, Bisseck’s Lionesses will be aiming for redemption.
