The head coach of Eding Sport de la Lekie, Andre Anicet Mbarga Foe has expressed his satisfaction about his team’s narrow one-nil win against Racing Bafoussam this Saturday in the opening game of the 2023/24 MTN Elite Two championship.

A late strike from Samuel Belemb handed an opening day win to the Pool A winners who strolled into the business end of the championship after a seamless display in the regular 14 matches face of the season and are red-hot favorite for ascension despite the challenge from the likes of Panthere, Djiko, Dragon and even their day one opponents Racing.

To Anicet Mbarga, the long gap between the previous phase of the championship may have had a tool on his team.

“Our team wasn’t all perfect today. We played our last league game in January. Maybe that affected us but we are satisfied the minimum was done. We are going to continue working to ensure we are always in our best shape in this playoffs.

Eding entered the Elite Two championship in the build up to the current season after losing the Elite One relegation playoffs match against YOSA.

Bookmakers tipped the club to make a quick return to the big time but the former UMS of Loum and Union Sportive of Douala trainer who helped Eding Sport to the Elite One plays down on that situation.

“I don’t know if Eding is sure of promotion but this phase of the championship is extremely tricky and we have to remain focused till the last game. We missed our supporters today but have to stay focused to deliver for our administration.”

The winning start is just what they wanted, but they must remain on the same form in the next six games to stand a chance of being one of the two graduates from a school of eight contenders.

Eding Sport will clash with Djiko FC in their second playoffs game next Wednesday in match day two of the second tier championship series for promotion.

Elsewhere, Panthere of Nde secured a comfortable 2-0 win against Aigle Royal of Moungo to put themselves in the driving seat for promotion.
