  • Nji Richmond scored his fourth MTN Elite One championship goal in the 2-2 draw
  • Victoria United FC’s goals were penalties converted by Nji and Junior Djacba
  • The game marked an entertaining first-ever Elite One meeting of both clubs

Nji Richmond and Junior Djacba converted two penalties at the Douala Reunification stadium on Sunday to help Victoria United FC bag their first point in four games and end a run of three consecutive MTN Elite One championship defeats.

William Ebong’s early strike and a wonderful second segment finish from Alain Roland Nandjou Nganle couldn’t help the hosts get maximum points as their Victoria visitors showed character to ensure they at least get a point from their efforts.

Victoria United returned to action after over 14 days of controversy incited by their boycott of the match day five home game against APEJES last month while Avion Academy on their part were hoping to capitalize on the difficult build up for their visitors.

Ebong set the Bepanda Omnisport stadium alive when he fired the hosts ahead 38 seconds into the start of the game.

Ebong’s finish less than a minute after kick-off set the tone for what turned out to be an interesting contest.

Victoria United pushed and got their equalizer almost immediately when Nji converted a penalty to make it to make it 1-1.

Though Victoria United improved after scoring and created lots of opportunities, they failed to take their chances till the interval.

Nandjou restored Avion’s lead 13 minutes from time but Djacba converted a second Victoria United penalty to ensure the spoils are shared as the game finished 2-2.

The result makes it six points from a possible 12 for Avion Academy that has played just four games while Victoria United can boast of four points from five games so far.

Avion will host APEJES next Sunday while Victoria United will welcome UMS of Loum at the Limbe Centenary stadium.
