Some 209 athletes in individual and team sports representing the University of Bamenda, UBa, have left Bamenda this Wednesday, April 26, 2023, en route to Ngaoundere for the 2023 University Games.

Before leaving the campus of the University, the 209 athletes took the commitment to beat their 2019 statistics which they recorded in Dschang.

The athletes had been undergoing intensive training for the past month and their coaches are confident that they will turn the tables in Ngaoundere.

Athletes to take part in football, handball, volleyball, Basketball, and athletics (male and female categories), all disclosed that they are competing with the aim of winning a medal.

According to UBa’s Director of Students Affairs, Prof. Anong Damian Nota, the university shall be competing in all the available disciplines like individual and team sports.

During the 22nd edition of the games that took place in Dschang in 2019, the University of Bamenda finished in the 10th position with two gold medals, four silver, and five bronze. It’s worth noting that UBa’s last gold medal was gotten on the last competition; in men’s football where they defeated the Golf University Institute after post-match penalties.

During the farewell ceremony organized on the campus of the University of Bamenda, Prof. Theresia Nkuo Akenji, Vice Chancellor of the University called on the athletes to uphold the values of the University before, during and after the games.
