U-20 AFCON: Nigeria mauls Tunisia to claim bronze from battle of Eagles

Nigeria’s U-20 national team defeated Tunisia 4-0 to win the third-place match of 2023 U-20 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Friday.

Flying Eagles had won three of its previous five games, losing the other two including the semi-final against The Gambia.

Ibrahim Muhammad who missed a penalty in the semi-final which could have equalised the game scored the first goal in the ninth minute.

The Young Carthage Eagles tried to equalise before the halftime break including having a goal ruled out for offside.

An improved second-half performance saw the Ladan Bosso side double its lead in the 46th-minute courtesy of Ahmed Abdullahi.

Sunday Jude increased Nigeria’s lead to three in the 48th minute of play.

He rounded up the scoring in the 90th minute and was awarded the man of the match prize.

Nigeria with the win clinched the bronze medal and will now focus on the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia.

The draw for the World Cup will take place on March 31.
