Nigeria’s senior men’s national team goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali has been honoured with a chieftaincy title in Egbema Kingdom, Port Harcourt.

Super Eagles goalie, Nwabali has been conferred with a chieftain title by the traditional ruler of Egbema Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Nzeobi Evaritus Amida.

The title was in recognition of his bravery for the national team at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Chippa United goalkeeper kept four straight clean sheets to help the team into the final of the competition as they finished second behind host and champions, Cote D’Ivoire.

By doing so, he became the first Nigeria goalkeeper to keep four straight clean sheets at any football tournament.

He also saved penalties in the team’s semi-final win over South Africa.

Recently the executive governor of the state, Seminalayi Fubara honoured him.

The head coach of the team was also given cash rewards after their performances at the tournament.

This is coming after backlash on some Super Eagles players on social media, especially Alex Iwobi who was blamed for the team’s loss to the Elephants in the final.
