Marc Brys, the newly appointed coach for Cameroon, has recently completed a comprehensive tour of the nation’s top stadiums in Douala and Yaoundé. His mission: to identify the optimal venue for the Indomitable Lions’ forthcoming matches.

On Tuesday, Brys began his journey in Yaoundé, the political heart of Cameroon, before proceeding to Douala, the economic hub, on Thursday. His objective was clear: to evaluate each stadium’s potential to host the high-stakes games ahead.

Upon his arrival in Douala on the morning of April 11, Brys was warmly welcomed at the governor’s office. His inspection commenced at the renowned Japoma Stadium. From the lush green of the pitch to the strategic confines of the conference room, and from the sanctity of the players’ dressing room to the nerve center of the control rooms, Brys meticulously assessed every facility, offering his insights to the on-site directors and officials.

Following his visit to Japoma, the seasoned 61-year-old tactician made his way to the Reunification Stadium, where he repeated the thorough inspection process.

In a post-tour interview, Brys shared his rationale for the visits: “To deliver the best outcomes for our nation and our players, we must be objective and detail-oriented. It’s essential to understand the strengths and weaknesses of each stadium,” he stated.

While Brys kept his specific impressions of the infrastructures confidential, he did offer a general assessment, noting, “The details of my evaluations are reserved for those who will guide my decisions. They remain confidential. However, I can openly say that the stadiums are of high quality.”

The significance of Brys’ tour lies in its goal to select a fitting venue for Cameroon’s World Cup qualifying matches scheduled for June and to lay the groundwork for future tournaments. Yet, the final decision rests with the state authorities.

Brys emphasized the urgency of his task: “As a coach, time is of the essence. Within five to six months, we face two crucial games. My role isn’t to leisurely explore; it’s to make decisive choices. We’ve inspected five stadiums, and my assistant has diligently recorded our findings. We will consult with the authorities, but ultimately, the state will make the final call. It’s imperative that we select a stadium that not only meets our needs but also inspires our players to excel,” he concluded.

The Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium has long been the traditional home for Cameroon’s domestic matches. However, the Indomitable Lions have also graced the fields of the Reunification and Japoma stadiums, depending on the condition of the pitches. Whether this tradition will shift remains to be seen, as the state holds the keys to this decision.
