  • Simon Ngapandouetnbu, has renewed his contract with Olympique de Marseille until 2026
  • Having joined the club’s youth academy and signing his first professional contract at sixteen, Ngapandouetnbu is grateful for OM’s continued trust
  • Although he hasn’t played an official match for OM yet, the club plans to loan him out next season to prepare him for higher-level play upon his return

Simon Ngapandouetnbu, the 21-year-old Cameroonian goalkeeper, has extended his contract with Olympique de Marseille (OM), ensuring his stay at the club until 2026. This extension marks a continued relationship between the young talent and his formative club.

“The Indomitable Simon Ngapandouetnbu 🇨🇲 extends 🤩 until 2026”, OM’s Facebook post made today April 17 reads.

Ngapandouetnbu, who joined OM’s youth academy at a young age, signed his first professional contract with the club on October 11, 2019, at just sixteen years old.

His development within the club’s ranks has been closely watched, and he was previously awarded a two-season contract extension in March 2022.

The latest contract renewal comes as a vote of confidence from the club, especially considering Ngapandouetnbu’s streak of injuries—most recently,a meniscus tear in his right knee. Despite these setbacks, OM has shown its trust in the goalkeeper’s potential and recovery, further solidifying his future with the team.

Expressing his gratitude, Ngapandouetnbu stated, “It’s a pride because OM is my training club. I thank the club for the trust they continue to give me. It touches me. Since I was little, I have been here, and they have trusted me.”

He also mentioned his ambition to play and hopes to go on loan next year to return even stronger.

“I have a goal and ambition to play. Hope to go out on loan next year to come back even stronger. I’ve come a long way since I signed my first pro contract. A lot of things have happened. I work a lot and have always worked with top goalkeepers like, Pau Lopez, Ruben Blanco, Steve Mandanda or Yohann Pelé. In selection, I’m side with André Onana and therefore little by little, I’m progressing”.

While Ngapandouetnbu has yet to make an official match appearance for OM, the plan is for him to be loaned out next season to gain experience at the highest level.

This strategic move is expected to provide him with the necessary match practice and exposure to return to OM as a more seasoned player.

Simon is regarded as the future of Cameroon’s goalkeeping, having been part of the national team’s setup in various capacities. He was called up as the third goalkeeper for the Cameroon squad in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and was also selected for the AFCON 2023. Additionally, he participated in the U23 AFCON qualifiers.
