The Teranga Lions vice captain left the Hotel President in Yamoussoukro in tears and was escorted to the Airport by the team’s security.
Kouyaté was an unused substitute in Senegal’s 3-0 win against The Gambia in their opening game of the tournament.
The deputy skipper is expected to bury his father and return to Côte D’Ivoire for the rest of the tournament though it’s unclear if he will be involved in their crunch clash against Cameroon on Friday.
