Senegal: Holders arrive base ahead of AFCON 2023 kick-off

Defending champions, Senegal have arrived Yamousoukro and taken to their base at the Hotel President six days before their first game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Aliou Cisse and his players in a delegation of over 50 persons arrived the international Airport in the country’s political capital this Tuesday, January 9.

A crowd of Senegalese based in the city joined their deplomats of the visitors plus CAF and local organizing committee officials to welcome Sadio Mane and his mates on arrival.

The team immediately moved to the five-star hotel to host them throughout the group stage of the competition.

The 2021 AFCON winners have become the second national team, outside the hosts to arrive Côte D’Ivoire after 1976 winners, Morocco that arrived San Pedro two days ago.

Senegal us the first Group C team to get to Yakro and is expected to have it’s first training session on Wednesday at one of the Annex stadium for the tournament.

Senegal will compete with five-time winners Cameroon, The Gambia and Guinea in group C of the 34th edition of the competition.

The 2002 runners-up will open their competition on January 15 against eternal rivals The Gambia, before facing Cameroon four days and cap it against Guinea on January 23rd.
