PFL announces second Africa event, tickets go on sale

Mixed Martial Arts organization, Professional Fighters League (PFL) has announced its second event for the Africa league – PFL Africa. The bouts will take place on Saturday, August 9 at the Big Top Arena, Carnival City in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Africa’s top MMA talent will clash in the Welterweight and Featherweight divisions at the Johannesburg event as the inaugural tournament continues toward crowning the first-ever PFL Africa Champions.

Headlining the evening is a Featherweight First Round bout featuring Nigeria’s Patrick Ocheme (6-1) against Guinea’s Mohamed Camara (5-2-1) in a high-stakes matchup between two of the best West African in the world.

In the co-main event, Angola’s Shido Boris Esperanca (9-1), who was victorious in his PFL debut, returns to action against Gambia’s Ibrahima Mané (14-5) in a Welterweight First Round bout.

The global powerhouse in MMA and the fastest-growing sports league world-wide said in a statement on Tuesday that it will announce additional matchups for the evening subsequently. Tickets for the PFL Africa Johannesburg event go on sale Thursday, June 12 via TicketPro with the organization encouraging fans to secure seats early for what promises to be another electric night in the SmartCage.

PFL will be returning to South Africa in August after what is expected to be a successful launch of the Africa league in same country next month. The official launch is slated for Saturday, July 19 at Grand Arena, GrandWest in Cape Town with First Round matchups in the Heavyweight and Bantamweight divisions each featuring an eight-man bracket.

Three Cameroonians; Maxwell Djantou Nana, Jashell Ticha Awa and Alain Majorique are on the lineup for the inaugural PFL Africa tournament bouts. Nana (6-1) will take on Cote d’Ivoire’s Mikael Groguhe (6-2) and Awa (3-1) will battle it out with Justin Clarke (2-0) of South Africa in high stakes Heavyweight bouts.

Majorique (5-0) on his part will face Zimbabwe’s Simbarashe Hokonya (5-0) in a highly anticipated Bantamweight bout.

In total, 32 fighters representing 15 African nations will compete across the four PFL Africa divisions in 2025 with winners becoming pioneer PFL Africa Champions.
