The Ethics Committee of the Cameroon football Federation has banned Geremi Fotso Sorel Njitap from all football related activities for the next five years and fined him to pay 10 millions FCFA for Violating Article 13, sub 1&3 of the FECAFOOT’s Ethics code.

The decision to ban the former Cameroon international and president of SYNAFOC was made by the ethics committee of the Cameroon football federation in May 2025 without stating the reason(s). But it’s an open secret that the clash between Njitap and Etienne Tamo (Samuel Eto’o Fils’) head of protocol during the AFCON 2023 match between Cameroon and The Gambia in Cote D’Ivoire.

However, CAF had asked FECAFOOT to hands off the matter in a letter sent over a year ago;

In a letter signed by Veron Mosengo-Omba and sent to FECAFOOT on May 6, the continental body has told FECAFOOT Njitap can only be disciplined by the organizers of the competition he is accused to have breeched rules.

The letter tagged ‘Request for Clarification’ and addressed to Blaise Djounang of FECAFOOT reads;

“I am writing to you today to bring to your attention a matter of concern regarding Mr. Geremi Njitap.

“Following the match between Cameroon and Gambia during the group stage of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2023 in Côte d’Ivoire, it has been alleged that Mr. Njitap entered the dressing rooms reserved for the Cameroon national team without authorization. As a result, and based on the information we have received, FECAFOOT is reportedly considering taking measures that could potentially hinder Mr. Njitap’s ability to participate in football-related activities.

“Given that the alleged incident occurred during an official CAF competition, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) would have exclusive jurisdiction to hear this matter. If this is the case, we request that you cease any proceedings that may be underway and transmit to CAF all necessary documentation and relevant evidence. We look forward to your prompt response and assure you of our highest consideration.”

Per the verdict Njitap has to pay a fine of ten millions FCFA and his lawyer who doubles, Ngos Daniel Blaise has picked up a two-year ban and Five Millions FCFA.

For starters, Eto’o and Njitap had engaged in an open war after the latter was denied access to the Indomitable Lions dressing room in the wake of Cameroon’s 3-2 win against The Gambia during their third group game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Bouake – Côte D’Ivoire.

Geremi reacted to the situation in his capacity as president of the Cameroon professional football syndicate (SYNAFOC). He issued a Communiqué weeks after the end of the AFCON to decry the situation.

A few days later, Eto’o’s FECAFOOT fired back, by summoning the SYNAFOC Secretary in a letter they accused him of bringing the institution to disrepute.

Since then there has been a dangerous calm till this June 18 when the verdict banned the duo and has given them ten days to write to FECAFOOT to understand the reason for the ban.
