  • Cameroon and Nigeria are hoping to end an over a decade absence from the Olympics games via this third round tie
  • Cameroon received a huge setback this Tuesday after Nchout Njoya Ajara was declared unavailable for the tie
  • 48 hours before Friday’s first-leg game in Douala, Nguiadem Annecy, Marie Ngah Manga and Bridgette Omboudou have missed their flight to Douala from Istanbul
  • A Uganda quartet of Referees will manage the first-leg game while Namibian dominated officials will be in charge of the second game in Abuja

Cameroonian trio Marie Giselle Divine Ngah Manga, Nguiadem Annecy and Brigette Omboudou on the books of Turkish women top-flight club Hakkarigucu have all failed to travel to Douala as scheduled on Wednesday, February 21.

According to information first revealed by Junior Livodo via TyJu on Facebook are said to have failed to leave Istanbul as planned because they arrived at their point of departure after the boarding gates for the flight to Douala had closed.

According to findings Ngah, Nguiadem and Omboudou had received their air tickets 24 hours prior to the trip, but other logistics reasons made them fail to arrive on time.

20 of the 23 players summoned for the camp had arrived by Tuesday, February 20, but the trio that was expected to make it a full house is now racing to be available for the encounter on Friday.

Sources close to the situation have briefed kick442.com that the Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) is doing its best to find a new travel itinerary for the players to travel home as soon as possible. However, the rest of the squad is in camp to prepare for the ever-exciting contest.

This situation, plus injuries to key players Nchout Njoya Ajara and Ngock Monique, the unavailability of Estelle Laura Johnson and non selection of Easther Mayi Kith and Bawou Ange deprives Cameroon of five regulars during the last Olympics qualifiers.

The third round meeting of Nigeria and Cameroon in their quest to secure a ticket in women’s Football in the Paris 2024 Olympic games is a remake of the 2012 games which Cameroon won on post-match penalties to progress to the London games.

Captain Rashedat Ajebade of Nigeria, five-time African footballer of the year Asisat Lamina Oshoala is and co arrived Cameroon on Wednesday, February 21.

The first-leg game is scheduled for Friday, February 23 at the Bepanda Omnisport stadium in Douala while the return game will happen three days later at the MKO Abiola stadium in Abuja.

The nine-time African champions, Nigeria are seeking a first appearance at the Women’s Olympic games in 16 years.

Cameroon was the stumbling block via a penalty shootout win in 2012 after which they lost to Equatorial Guinea in the Rio 2016 qualifiers and Cote d’Ivoire in Tokyo while Cameroon is hoping to return to the games for the first time in 12 years.

Coach Jean Baptiste Bisseck’s Cameroon team already missed out the Morocco 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifier and will be hoping to make amends via the Nigeria clash while for Nigeria’s coach Randy Waldrum it’s a fitting occasion to announce his comeback and demonstrate the resilience of his team at the last FIFA World Cup wasn’t a fluke.
