Andre Onana’s Manchester United FC will face German giants and three-time European champions Bayern Munich of Eric Maxim Choupo Moting in group A of the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League competition while Zambo Anguissa’s Napoli have been pooled against record winners Real Madrid CF in group C.
Jean Pierre Nsame’s Young Boys Bern who returned to the group stage for the first time in three years have defending champions Manchester City to content with in Group G while Danny Nomasso who completes the Cameroon crew is part of the Porto family thinking about a date with Barcelona in Group G.
Thursday’s draw exercise which took place in Monaco puts Galatasaray and Copenhagen FC as part of the group A contingent which is fitting enough to cause Andre Onana and co to sweat differently as they meet Bayern at this stage of the competition for the first time since 2001 while Nsame and Young Boys face RB Leizpig, Red Star Belgrade and Manchester City in a relatively friendly-looking group for the holders.
FC Porto of Nomasso are in a winnable Group H alongside Shakhtar Donetsk, Barcelona and Royal Antwerp. They need to be at their best especially at the Dragao in order to increase their chances of getting out of the group.
Anguissa’s Napoli have Real Madrid as their biggest worry but having edged Liverpool in the same group last season, they can afford to put Real, Braga and Union Berlin on the status of just another opponents.
Every campaign has a Group of Death, and this season it’s Group F – a tasty group containing European powerhouses Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund, Milan and Newcastle is the group even the Cameroonians in the other group will keep their eyes on.
