Official: MINSEP reveals 2023 Cup of Cameroon date

Officials of the Cameroon Ministry of Sports and Physical Education have announced September 24 as the official date for the final of the 62nd edition of the cup of Cameroon.

The announcement was made at the end of a working session held at the Conference room of the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education with the various sports stakeholders.

The ceremony will serve as an ideal moment for the top government officials, to award trophies to the over 50 existing sport federations in Cameroon.

The highly-watched sport Jamboree will get to its denouement, with the football finals pitting the 2021 title holders PWD of Bamenda, against FOVU Club of Baham at the Yaoundé Ahmadou Ahidjo Omnisport Stadium.

The Abakwa Boys had a historic journey to the finals, after recording five victories in five outings, that is from the 64th rounds to the finals;

PWD 1-2 Stade de Bandjoun

PWD 2-1 Djiko FC

PWD 7-6 Dynamo FC

PWD 1-0 AS FAP

PWD 4-0 Fauve Azur

PWD defeated Astres of Douala 1-0 to win her maiden Cup of Cameroon in 2021. The Abakwa Boys count one title at the Elite One championship registered in 2000.

At the level of the CAF Champions League, the club reached the qualifying rounds in 2020-2021 and ended at the first round of the CAF Confederations Cup in 2004.

PWD lost in 1967 to Canon Sportif Yaounde in a 1-0 match at the finals, 3-1 to Dynamo of Douala in 1979 and overpowered Astres 1-0 to win in 2021.

Fovu Club is on her fourth appearance at the finals of the Cup Cameroon, after lifting two trophies in 2001 and 2010.

The Baham based club defeated Colombe of the Dja and Lobo 12-11 on penalties, after playing a one-all tie during normal time. Indeed, Fovu lost none of her five games and settled for a place at this prestigious stage in the Cup of Cameroon.FC

Apart from winning the cup of Cameroon twice, Fovu of Baham won the Elite One Championship in 2006, emerged victorious two times in 2000 and 2001 in the Super Cup of Cameroon and finalist of the UNIFFAC in 2006.
