Elena Obono Nkuadum Oyana scored twice to help Huracanes FC of Equatorial Guinea edge holders, TP Mazembe 3-2 in a pulsating 2023 UNIFFAC CAF Women’s Champions League finals game this Friday at the Estadio Nacional de Malabo.

The Equato-Guinean international scored the winner in the final quarter hour of the see-saw contest for coach Severino Oyono’s team to get the deserved three points.

The Equatorial Guinea champions enjoyed a dominant start to the game, and nearly scored when an early effort from Obono forced a save from Brigitte Ngamita.

Against the run of play, TP Mazembe almost hit back through Belange Nzumba, who found herself in space on the edge of the Hurricanes box, but dragged her shot wide.

Obono rewarded the hosts for their efforts in the 35th minute when she galloped into the box before driving past Ngamita to make it 1-0.

The debutants scored the second from a fine one-two between Obono and Catalina Andema. The former picked a lose ball on the edge of the area and beat two, then squared to Catalina who made it 2-0.

Unplayable duo Obono and Andema initially put the hosts two goals ahead after 38 minutes.

It looked like Huracanes FC will run away with it after the goals in quick succession.

Somehow, Coach Boumedhi Lamia TP Mazembe found the resources to force themselves back into the contest.

Lagoali Kreto’s perfectly-dispatched penalty just before the break and a fine second-half finish from Dikisha Esther leveled matters going into delicately poised final 26 minutes.

Huracanes’ best performer on the day, Obono, won the game 13 minutes from time finishing an enterprising collective move.

Though there were half chances in the final moments of the game, Huracanes held on to Mazembe’s return to the competition they won last year in Malabo.

Huracanes will watch from the stands on Monday when TP Mazembe battles Epah Ngamba in the Congolese derby counting for match day two. The Equatorial Guinea flag bearers will cap the competition against Epah Ngamba on September 14.
