The Rugby Lions of Cameroon have prematurely crashed out of the Rugby 7 tournament in Mauritius, jeopardizing their chances of a 2024 Paris Olympics qualification.

Placed in group C with Senegal,Cote D’Ivoire and Egypt as opponents, captain Gaucher Amougou and teammates lost all three games .

From loosing 5-21 tries to Egypt in round one, the rugby lions managed to register just 7 tries in contrast to their round two opponents , Cote D’Ivoire, who had 27 tries.Against the Teranga Ruby lions, there was an improvement , unfortunately it was’nt strong enough to get the teams first win ,Cameroon 19-31 Senegal.

Thanks to a ranking victory over Lesotho and Burundi, team Cameroon was able to finish at nine place in this 12 nations tournament.

These results however puts them out of the main tournament to take place in Zambabwe between September 16 and 17,2023.

Algeria, Nigeria and Cote D’Ivoire are the three sides to join the already qualified in Zimbabwe come September.

The winner of the two days competition will book a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics while the second and third place teams will qualifying to the 2024 final Olympic qualification tournament .
