  • Francis Ngannou has been removed from the WBC’s top 10 heavyweight rankings following a knockout defeat to Anthony Joshua.
  • The former UFC champion dropped from the 10 spot to the 24th position
  • WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman confirmed the ranking drop but praised Ngannou’s previous performance against Tyson Fury

Francis Ngannou, has faced a significant career setback after being defeated by Anthony Joshua.

The match, which took place in Saudi Arabia, ended with Ngannou being knocked out in the second round, leading to his removal from the WBC’s top ten heavyweight rankings.

From the 10th position , the former UFC champion now occupies the 24th position as of March 19,2024.

Despite this loss, Ngannou had previously made a strong impression in the boxing world with his debut against Tyson Fury last October, where he lost via split decision but managed to floor the WBC champion.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman told TalkSPORT that while Ngannou will certainly drop from the top 10, he does not regret the initial ranking decision. He explained how it was important to keep the Cameroonian in the top 40.

Sulaiman highlighted Ngannou’s sensational outing against Fury and suggested that he could still be competitive against other rated fighters.

The future for Ngannou in boxing remains uncertain, but his previous performances have shown that he can hold his own in the sport. A PFL debut fight with Renan Ferreira will do a great deal.

Meanwhile, Joshua’s victory has put him back in contention for a world title shot, marking four consecutive wins for the former two-time world champion.
