Canon Sportive of Yaoundé grabbed all three points against new comers, Gazelle FA following a 2-0 win in day two of the ongoing MTN Elite one playoffs, thanks to the league’s top scorer, Emmanuel Mahopp and Henry Paul Tchikeu.

Before a huge number of fans and the scotching sun of approximately 33 degrees Celsius in Douala, the day one losers battled for a come back in keeping hopes alive of emerging champions of Cameroon.

Mahopp opened scores one minute before the break and Tchikeu made it two three minutes to the end of regular time in this encounter, to frustrate Gazelle’s hope of grabbing the title this season.

Mbahbi cancelled Mahopp’s chance of finding the back of his net at 23’ when the latter had a one-on-one chance with him, after a swift cross from Junior Stephane.

Pressing ma from both sides yielded no fruits until the 44th minute when top scorer, Emmanuel Mahopp outsmarted Mbahbi via a beautiful header to put the kpakum boys ahead.

Canon held on to the 1-0 lead before the break, a goal which revives hope of a possible chase at the title this season, following their 2-1 loss to Bamboutos FC of Mbouda in match day one.

Upon resumption, both sides reinforced and coach Jean Baptiste brought in Midfielder Pierre Francis Balliang for defense man Francis Joel Tombi. Meanwhile coach Alioum had Oumarou Abdourahman, Calice D’or Nwatsock and Soulei Sanda.

The latter’s changes were still not enough to chance the fate of the game, seeing how wasteful the attackers were in front of goal.

Canon took advantage of the opponents lapses and created a chance in the box for Henry Paul Tchikeu to smartly slide the ball pass Goalkeeper Mbahbi, three minutes to stoppage time.

Gazelle’s supposed consolatory goal in added time from Sabo Abdoullahi was ruled out for offside, thereby denying the newcomers a Chance of leaving this stage with at least a goal.

Canon will therefore meet defending champions, Cotonsport of Garoua in the last day of play as they now seat third second with three points, ahead of Cotonsport on goal difference.
