Marc Brys to return to Cameroon today

  • Marc Brys will arrive Cameroon with his agent this Friday and has agreed to stay in Cameroon for the duration of his contract
  • Though there have been some controversy about his appointment, Marc Brys has confirmed he has an official contract to be coach of the Indomitable Lions Cameroon

Indomitable Lions coach, Marc Brys will arrive Cameroon this Friday evening to continue preparations for his first outing as the lead technician of the five-time African champions.

The Belgian trainer who turns 62 next week, his assistant and part of his entourage will touchdown the central African nation before dinner time today. The coach is expected to immediately move to his home in Cameroon’s political capital ahead of a chain of meetings scheduled for this weekend.

His Cameroonian deputies Ashu Bessong Cyprien and Francois Omam-Biyik who were also out of the country for a short stay returned earlier this week to treat varied tasks assigned them by coach Brys.

Brys, erstwhile Royal Mouscron trainer was appointed Cameroon coach in March as replacement of Rigobert Song Bahanag who had led the national team for two years but failed to hit the ground running.

Brys has spent the best part of his early days as coach of Cameroon in Europe, holding talks with current and potential Indomitable Lions ahead of the June window.

Though president Samuel Eto’o Fils of the Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) has publicly expressed his disapproval about the choice of Brys and announced he has been mandated to name a new staff, the state has remained fixed on its position to go with the one-time Louven coach who will have his first litmus test as coach of Cameroon next month.

His return to Cameroon this weekend will heightens preparations for Cameroon’s double fixture against Cape Verde Island in Douala and Angola in Luanda.

Cameroon currently occupies top in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification group ahead of the likes of Libya, Mauritius Island, Eswatini having picked up four points from two games

The former Al Raed coach is on his first opportunity in a national team football and has been tasked to qualify Cameroon for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2025 AFCON, plus have an honorable run in the competition in Morocco.

In a related development, the former KV Mechelen coach has opted to live in Cameroon during the duration of his two-and-half years contract as lead trainer of the Indomitable Lions.
