Cameroonian sensation James Eto’o played a pivotal role in Botev Plovdiv’s victory over the reigning league champions, PFC Ludogorets Razgrad in the Bulgarian cup final.

The match, held at the iconic Vasil Levski Stadium on Wednesday, May 15, concluded with a nail-biting 3-2 win for Botev Plovdiv.

Despite Ludogorets dominating possession and launching more shots on goal, fortune favored Botev Plovdiv.

The deadlock was broken just four minutes into the game when Antoine Conte headed home, courtesy of a precise assist from Ivelin Popov. The response from Ludogorets was swift, with Kwadwo Duah leveling the score in the 8th minute, assisted by Caio.

As halftime approached, the former FC Nantes prodigy, James Eto’o, orchestrated a brilliant play, setting up Martin Sekulic for Botev’s second goal at the 45-minute mark.

The lead was further solidified by Emmanuel Umeh’s goal in the 58th minute, pushing the score to 3-1. Rwan Seco managed to pull one back for Ludogorets, but the scoreline remained unchanged until the final whistle.

This match marked Eto’o’s third assist in his 36th appearance across all competitions this season. Notably, the 23-year-old has also earned his first senior national team call-up in anticipation of the World Cup qualifiers, joining six other newcomers in Marc Brys’s provisional squad.

This victory secures Botev Plovdiv’s fourth Bulgarian Cup title, a triumphant redemption after their 2019 final loss. Moreover, the team has now clinched a coveted spot in the next season’s UEFA Europa League, promising an exciting future for the club and its rising star, James Eto’o.
