Cotonsport of Garoua have been eliminated from the 2024  Cup of Cameroon following their shocking defeat against South Regional championship side Epervier d’Ebolowa on post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw after regular time.

The six-time cup winners fell short against the experienced amateur side in a nail-biting contest played on Wednesday May 15 at the Bertoua Municipal Stadium.

Former Cup of Cameroon winner Emmanuel Chamdjou’s early opener for Cotonsport was cancelled by Fils Assene just before the pause, and the amateur club went on to pull a miracle via the lengthy shootout session.

Epervier d’Ebolowa loosely translated as hawks of Ebolowa defeated Cotonsport by 10 successful penalties to nine, leaving a bulk of the fans at the stadium, who had come to support the 2023 winners shelshocked.

The defeat barely weeks after they lost the MTN Elite One title to Victoria United FC – making it a rare trophyless season for Cotonsport of Daniel Breard.

The Frenchman has failed to assert his know-how during his debut season at Cotonsport, with a section of fans calling for his dismissal.

Epervier d’Ebolowa will face the winner between Aigle Royal of Menoua and Adamawa 1 in the next round of the Cup of Cameroon.

Elsewhere, Cinyodev FA of Buea defeated Renaissance FC of Ngoumou by 5-2 at the same Japoma Omnisport stadium Canon saw off Talented Academy of Muyuka 5-0.

MTN Elite One championship top scorer, Jules Armand Kooh Bioumla scored the only goal as Astres survived as 1-0 winners against Real of Garoua while Caiman dumped FAP in shootouts too.
