Manchester United goalkeeper, Andre Onana Onana was subbed off in Cameroon’s 3-0 win against Mauritius Island in the opening game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Friday evening at the Japoma Omnisport stadium.

Coach Rigobert Song replaced Onana with his cousin, Fabrice Joseph Ondoa in the 80th minute after the former felt a pain on his back that didn’t allow him to continue the game.

Early reports suggest he had suffered an abductor muscle problem. However, FECAFOOT is yet to communicate on the nature of the injury and it’s gravity.

If reports of the abducture problem is anything to go by, then the 28-year-old could miss the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled for early next year in Côte D’Ivoire.

Manchester United staff and fans must be concerned about Onana’s situation ahead of their Premier League clash against Everton on November 26.

United are currently having a ever-growing of their key players out injured; including Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tyrell Malacia.

Onana has left the national team camp and is headed for Manchester for further treatment from his club.
