FC Lorient defender Darling Zidane Yongwa played a telling role in his club’s 3-3 draw against struggling Olympique of Lyonnais, this Sunday on match day eight of the French Ligue 1, at the Groupama stadium.
The 23-year-old versatile player last full throttle as a left-sided midfielder and gave a good account of himself on his rare start this season for Lorient.
Yongwa scored and provided an assist to ensure his club bags at least a point from the goal feast encourter that had a brace from Lyon’s Alexander Lacazette and Eli Junior Kroupi.
It took just 16 minutes for Kroupi to indicate it was going to be a busy afternoon as he scored the opener from a Julien Ponceau assist.
The lead only last five minutes before promising Ghanaian forward Ernest Nurmah leveled for the hosts.
Skipper Lacazette took his responsibility, scored the next two goals of the game – the second being a 41st minute penalty to make it 3-1 in favor of Lyon.
Yongwa began the comeback charge just after the break by putting a fine ball on the plate for Kroupi to complete his brace with over half an hour left.
Brace scorer Kroupi went off for M’Backe N’Diaye to bring more energy to find the equalizer for Lorient.
Yongwa did the job for visiting Lorient. He scored the leveler in the 79th minute to complete one of the dramatic comebacks this season.
There were chances in the closes stage but none of the clubs found a breakthrough, thus leaving the final score as 3-3.
Yongwa’s performance is arguably the best in Lorient colors as he also put in a defensive shift despite his side conceding three goals.
Lorient and Lyon are still in the relegation zone with seven and three points respectively after eight rounds of matches so far.
