Aspiring FIFA Assistant Referee, Leopold Diouf of SCRA of Mbor has died during testing for the 2024 FIFA certified match officials in the West African nation.

The tragic incident occurred this weekend during the exercise to determine international Referees to be submitted by the Senegalese football federation.

According to Senegalese media, Mr Diouf crashed to the floor during the tenth lap of the process and never recovered despite medical efforts to resuscitate him.

The Referees Association in Thies have issued a statement to confirm that sad development while pledging their support to the bereaved biological family.

Medical feedback of the reasons behind his demise is yet to be made public but the likelihood that he may have suffered a cardiac arrest is high.
