- The Elite One champions beat Fovu of Baham 2-0 to secure the Super Cup on Sunday
- It is Coton’s first-ever Super Cup win and partly settles the anger of their CAF Champions League preliminary elimination
Cotonsport have broken the jinx by defeating Fovu of Baham 2-0 to win the 2023 Cameroon Super Cup.
Wassou Goue scored from the penalty spot after five minutes before Aziz Bassane added a second before the break to hand the Cup winners cup to last season’s Elite One champions.
Coach Breard saw his good start hopes end against AS Real Bamako in the CAF Champions League two weeks ago, but his side made the perfect response to that shock setback by cruising to victory at Bepanda Omnisport stadium on Sunday in the Cameroon Super Cup and Breard refused to admit a sense of relief while appreciating his players and fans.
“I am proud of my players. They applied everything we practiced during training sessions. Congratulations to our opponents the brought the best out of us. I dedicate this trophy to our fans” Daniel Breard told the media after the game.
Coton secured their maiden Super Cup trophy but now have to switch their attention to the domestic championship and the Cup of Cameroon to come later next year.
If the Cotonites succeed to wins 19th domestic championship under coach Breard, it will be their fourth successive season as champions of the Elite One championship and a win in the Cup of Cameroon will complete an unprecedented treble in the 29 years history of the club in the top-flight championship.
