Cameroonian forward Jean Pierre Nsame and his Italian club Como 1907 have secured promotion to the Italian Serie A alongside Parma.

Their graduation to the top-flight championship was confirmed in the final game of the season following a 1-1 draw at home Cosenza in the final round of matches of the campaign.

Nsame came on late in the game for his 8th appearance since joining the club in January, but a goal from the penalty spot from fellow substitute Simone Verdi ensured they picked up the required point to ensure they finish the season in the second spot with 73 points to their credit.

The result meant Parma and Como 1907 have secured direct promotion to the Serie for the 2024/25 season while Nsame’s former club Venezia who were in contention for promotion till the final day will have to seek it through the playoffs alongside Cremonese, Catanzaro, Palermo, Sampdoria and Brescia.

Though Nsame only joined in January, he contributed an assist in eight appearances as his club enjoyed an amazing ride in the Serie B – winning 21 matches and played 10 draws en route to becoming vice champions to Parma that won the championship with three points better.

The promotion gives a second chance in the Serie A for 31-year-old Nsame who didn’t impress in his first season as a Venezia player less than 18 months ago.

The rise of the Como project has been largely thanks to the people in it.Former England international and Chelsea legend Dennis Wise is the CEO while Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry is a shareholder of Como and also friends with assistant manager Cesc Fabregas, who does not have the necessary coaching badges to be considered head coach and therefore shares the role with Osian Roberts.

It is expected that Fabregas will become head coach again once he completes the necessary coaching badges.

It has been a massive turnaround for Como 1907 who went bankrupt in 2016 and were reborn as a new club in Serie D during the 2017-18 season, with Denise Wise joining as an advisor in 2024.

It’s worth noting Fabregas was both a minority shareholder and a player for Como before his retirement, when he took over as youth coach.
