  • ISOHSA maintained their unbeaten run following a goalless draw against Djiko FC
  • The point put both sides among the contenders for the playoffs spots
  • Sodea made four crucial interventions to deny the hosts the rare win

Hosts Isle of Hope Sports Academy (ISOHSA) of Limbe and visiting Djiko FC of Bandjoun have played out a goalless draw this Wednesday on match day two of the 2023/24 MTN Elite Two championship.

The hosts failed to take their chances in the entertaining afternoon at the Limbe Centenary stadium to the disappointment of over one thousand fans.

Coach Nlend Ayme opted to switch from the 4-3-3 system that helped them to the one-nil win against Panthere in an attempt to make it tough for a Djiko FC side that put four past Leopard of Douala in Match day One.

Ekene Calistus replaced Eben Tommy in the starting XI that had Arrey Jefta, Egbe Tiku and Babo Brandon upfront.

The hosts could have scored barely seconds into the game when a well-worked ball from the right-wing from Tiku met an umarked Babo in the far post.

Unfortunately for the home fans, Babo could not connect properly and as he spewed the ball out of touch.

The 2023 interpools champions multiplied their moves into the final third, but struggled to play the final ball into the appropriate channels to beat captain Sodea Eric in goal for the visitors.

The hosts nearly found themselves ahead when Malai galloped into space and lopped goalkeeper Ashu Kelvin in his first start of the season.
Fortunately for the ISOHSA, the ball came off the woodwork.

The next best chance of the table toppers clash fell to Ekene. Ivan Yatchet picked the forward with a through ball into space but the striker on his first start failed to toe-poke the ball beyond Sodea.

It remained goalless till the interval, though ISOHSA could have been up by 2-0 if they were a little more clinical in the final third.

ISOHSA returned for the second game with greater intent to score, but coach Francois Heya had set up Djiko FC to undo the ISOHSA attacking threats.

Mukete Ayong replaced Babo with 23 minutes to go and the forward’s entry put the visitors defence in all sorts of trouble during his time on the pitch.

Mukete forced a save from Sodea with a wicked drive from outside the box before Tiku wasted a close range effort in an afternoon nothing worked for the Limbe boys.

ISOHSA couldn’t find the winner even with five minutes of additional time as Djiko FC dropped deep and held on to earn a point.

The game ended goalless as both sides preserved their unbeaten run and dropped points for the first time in two outings.

The result put both sides on the podium of the championship in second and third positions just behind Eding Sport de la Lekie that beat Rangers away in Bamenda to take their points tally to six from a possible six points.

ISOHSA will travel to Douala this Saturday for a classic day three clash against pointless Leopard that suffered a one-nil defeat away to Panthere of Nde this Wednesday.
