Ghana has secured the privilege to host the prestigious Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Seniors Championships in 2026. In a competitive bid, Ghana triumphed over Botswana, emphasizing its growing prominence in international athletics.

Invited to bid by the confederation of African Athletics after a successful organization of the 2023 All African games, the gold coast won by a large margin

Out of the 15 countries that participated in the selection process in Douala, Ghana received an impressive 12 votes, while Botswana managed only three.

Ghana’s successful bid was led by a dedicated delegation, including Bawa Majeed (Deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority), Bawah Fuseini (President of Ghana Athletics), and Charles Osei Assibey (Vice President in charge of administration).

This marks Ghana’s first time hosting the CAA Seniors Championships since its inception in 1979.

Ghana’s commitment to organizing major sporting events and promoting athletics development in the region is commendable.

A number of it’s athletes are currently in Douala participating in the 23rd edition of this competition.
