Brazil forward Raphinha has described Morocco as the toughest opponent in the group stage ahead of their FIFA World Cup opener on June 13.

Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated clash, the Barcelona winger admitted that the South American giants are fully aware of the challenge posed by the Atlas Lions, especially after their previous meeting ended in defeat for Brazil.

“We know Morocco very well. They are the only African country we truly know. We played them before and lost,” Raphinha said.

The Brazilian international went on to praise Morocco’s tactical discipline and overall quality, insisting the North Africans deserve respect following their impressive rise on the international stage.

“They are an organized selection and a great team. This will be the most anticipated match of the group stage,” he added.

Morocco have continued to earn global admiration since becoming the first African nation to reach the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Their performances against some of world football’s biggest nations have established them as one of the continent’s leading sides.

Brazil, meanwhile, head into the tournament among the favourites once again, but Raphinha’s comments reflect the caution within the Seleção camp ahead of the encounter.

The June 13 showdown is already generating significant attention among football fans worldwide, with many expecting a fiercely contested battle between two technically gifted sides.

Morocco’s disciplined defensive structure and rapid transitions could once again pose problems for Brazil, who will rely heavily on their attacking stars as they seek to begin their World Cup campaign with a victory.
