Back Council FC have reached the final of the Tiko The Best Interquarters competition for the first time after overcoming Boma Street FC in a dramatic semi-final penalty shootout at the Tiko Town Green Stadium.

The semi-final produced a tense contest, with both sides battling fiercely over 90 minutes before the match ended 1-1. With nothing separating the teams after regulation time, the tie was decided from the penalty spot.

Back Council FC held their nerve to win the shootout 5-4, with goalkeeper Pierre Ikong emerging as the hero of the night.

Ikong produced the decisive moment when he saved Bright Mondoa’s penalty, putting Back Council in control. The Back Council players then showed remarkable composure, converting all five of their penalties to secure victory and send their supporters into celebration.

The triumph was particularly significant because it marked Back Council’s second consecutive penalty-shootout victory in the competition.

In the quarter-finals, Back Council FC had already survived another dramatic shootout against Casino FC, winning 6-5 on penalties to book their place in the last four. Their ability to remain composed under pressure has now carried them all the way to their first-ever final.

They will meet Water Tank FC of captain Marc Ojong, Fontem Jérôme, Kache Boris, Werekom Boris, Acha Leonard amongst others in Sunday’s final after the season winners also secured their place in the decisive match through penalties. Water Tank defeated Newlayout FC 5-4 in the other semi-final shootout.

The final of the tournament, organised by Engineer Jean Esunge, is scheduled for Sunday, August 23, at 3pm at the Tiko Town Green Stadium.

For Back Council, the final represents an opportunity to turn a remarkable knockout run into the biggest achievement in the team’s history.

Captain Confidence Oke will lead the challenge on the pitch, while club president Mighty ONYEDIRE will be hoping to see Back Council lift the trophy for the first time.

After twice surviving penalty shootouts on their way to the final, Back Council now stand one victory away from completing their historic journey.

The stage is set: Back Council FC vs Water Tank FC, Sunday at the Tiko Town Green Stadium — with the Tiko The Best Interquarters trophy at stake.
