Benjamin Didier Banlock, President of the Cameroon Chess Federation, has once again put Cameroon in the spotlight after an outstanding performance at a seminar bringing together presidents of Francophone African chess federations in Casablanca, Morocco.
Banlock emerged champion of the Blitz Tournament of Presidents of Francophone African Countries, producing an unbeaten score of 6.5 points out of a possible 7.
The Cameroonian chess boss won six of his seven games, drawing the other to finish the competition without a single defeat.
His performance was not only about results. Bankock also impressed during the seminar with his contributions and ideas, before demonstrating on the chessboard that his understanding of the game goes beyond administration.
With 6.5/7, Banlock delivered what can only be described as a stratospheric performance, combining leadership, strategic thinking and playing ability to dominate the tournament.
The victory adds another moment of pride for Cameroon on the international chess scene and underlines Bankock’s credentials not only as a federation president, but also as a competitive chess player.
Six wins. One draw. Zero defeats. Champion in Casablanca.
Banlock has made his move — and Cameroon has won.
Banlock who has embarked on the development of Chess in Cameroon has made impact stops in Russia, Kenya and Morocco since becoming president of the Chess Federation earlier this year.
