PWD of Bamenda extended their winless run in the 2023/24 MTN Elite One championship playoffs to three games largely because of a wasted penalty from teenage forward Febe Fritz Gilles Bongaman.
The Abakwa Boys still running after their first win in the ten-games relegation contest rue their misses all afternoon but can take pride from the fact that they became the first side to cause Union Sportive of Douala to drop points after three matches each this season.
In a week, PWD brought in Olivier Nankam to supervise the technical know-how of the squad that had just a point from their opening two games, they began the contest way better than they did in the previous game against Astres which they lost 3-1.
The Nasara Gamakai had first real opportunities of the contest but they bottled them as their PWD colleagues will later do the same.
Union’s Joel Paten plus PWD duo, Ngufor Terence and Abanke had their moments but squandered them.
The 2020 champions had a golden opportunity to give their campaign a bright look when they won a penalty at the struck of half-time. Young star Febe took the ball and failed from the spot, courtesy a save from Elimbi, leaving the contest level at the pause.
Upon resumption, there was more purpose from both sides but lack of precision meant another 45 minutes of actions without returns.
At the time the whistle of the game manager blasted for the final time there wasn’t any change of the score line situation even with the multiple changes in personnel.
To an extent, a point for each team after the absorbing 90 minutes was a fair finish of a contest that either side could have won by a narrow score if their forwards were a little more clinical even on one occasion.
PWD of Bamenda will take their search for a first win to Avion Academy that beat Aigle 2-0 with ten men on Wednesday while Union Sportive have an appointment with winless APEJES of Mfou who crashed 1-2 against Astres last time out.
11 clubs are competing for the top six positions to prevent being in the relegation crew of five clubs that finished with the lowest amount of points.
