The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon held their first training session on Monday at the National Sports Complex in St. Louis, the capital of Mauritius Island, as they prepare for their crucial World Cup qualifier against the host nation.

Team captain Vincent Aboubakar, alongside Danny Namaso, Samuel Kotto, and the rest of the squad already present in Mauritius, took part in the session under the supervision of the technical staff headed by Belgian head coach, Marc Peter Brys.

15 players, including returning Junior Tchamadeu and Nicolas Ngamaleu took part in Monday’s training session.

The other nine players, including Andre Onana are expected to arrive between this Monday evening and Tuesday.

Cameroon, currently third in their group with five points separating them from group leaders Cape Verde going into the two decisive fixtures — away to Mauritius Island on Wednesday, October 8, at 2:00 p.m. local time, and then at home against Angola on October 13 in Yaoundé.

Their qualification hopes took a hit in September after a narrow 0–1 away defeat to Cape Verde, leaving their path to the 2026 FIFA World Cup uncertain. To stay in contention, Cameroon will need to secure maximum points from their remaining matches and hope Cape Verde drop points in their final two games — including their midweek clash away to Libya in Benghazi.

Despite the setback, the Indomitable Lions remain optimistic. A strong performance in Mauritius could revive their chances of finishing among the best second-placed teams, or even clinching direct qualification to their eighth FIFA World Cup finals, should results elsewhere go in their favor.
