  • His absence has raised questions, but it aligns with the coach’s strategy to motivate players to excel, highlighting the competitive nature of international football

24-year-old center forward,Franck Magri has expressed his feelings about not being selected for the national team’s World Cup qualifiers.

Despite having discussions with the team’s coach, Marc Brys, Magri was not included in the 31-player roster. In an interview with Sports News, Magri shared his thoughts:

“During the match against Marseille, he came to see us, and I met him the next day, and we had a first exchange. Now, surprised or not is not necessarily the question. I had prepared and put everything in place to be part of the selection, but it’s like that. It’s part of the life of a footballer. I’m not on this list, but I might be on the next one. The goal is first to play and perform well in the club. This is the only way I could get selected.”

Magri, born in France, received his debut call-up to the Cameroon national team in 2023 during a friendly match between Senegal and Russia in France.

He made a significant impact in the AFCON qualifiers against Burundi, scoring his first goal in front of a jubilant crowd in Garoua. Overall, Magri has made nine appearances for the Lions, scoring two goals, one of which was in his debut AFCON match against Guinea.

His absence from the list was unexpected for many, but the coach’s rationale may justify the decision. The 61-year-old coach explained that some players were left out to encourage them to perform at their best. As a center forward, Magri’s record of five goals and two assists in 28 games indicates that there is room for improvement.

His contributions to the team have been significant, and his exclusion from the World Cup qualifiers roster has certainly sparked discussions among fans and analysts alike. Coach Marc Brys’ decision-making process and the factors he considered in team selection remain a topic of interest.
