Cameroon champions Lekié Football Filles face their biggest test yet at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League when they take on South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday, November 4, in their second Group A encounter in Egypt. The encounter offers Stéphane Ndzana’s side an opportunity to measure themselves against one of Africa’s most established women’s football clubs.
Lekié head into the contest following a goalless draw against Morocco’s FUS Rabat in their maiden appearance at the continental finals. Although they collected just one point, the result provided an encouraging start to their campaign and demonstrated their ability to compete against experienced opposition. They will now be looking for greater attacking efficiency after failing to find the net in their opening match.
Sundowns, two-time CAF Women’s Champions League winners in 2021 and 2023, represent a formidable challenge. The South Africans also began their campaign with a goalless draw against Egyptian side FC Masar, leaving both teams on one point ahead of Wednesday’s meeting. Their continental experience and winning pedigree make them a dangerous opponent for the Cameroonian newcomers.
For coach Stéphane Ndzana, defensive organisation, concentration and clinical finishing will be essential. Experienced forward Nchout Ajara and her teammates will need to bring their individual quality to the contest if Lekié are to trouble the South Africans. A positive result would represent a major statement for the Cameroonian champions and strengthen their hopes of reaching the semi-finals.
With their final group encounter against FC Masar scheduled for November 7, Lekié cannot afford to underestimate the importance of this fixture. Only the top two teams in Group A advance to the semi-finals, making every point valuable. Newcomers to the continental stage, the Cameroonians now have an opportunity to show that they belong among Africa’s elite and put their name firmly in contention for a historic semi-final place.
