The Limbe Centenary Stadium will be the centre of attraction this weekend as Limbe’s two beloved sides seek all three points in a football festival. Fans of both teams in Limbe and beyond are expected to pack the stadium, in what promises to be an electrifying atmosphere.
Both teams will be competing in the Elite 1 and 2 championships respectively, with ISHOSA battling against Fovu Club of Baham in matchday five of the Elite 2 championship, while Victoria United will host AS Fortuna for matchday 7 of the Elite 1 championship.
ISOHSA Targets top spot in Elite 2
Kicking off the football extravaganza at 1:30 PM, ISOHSA, known as the Peoples Royal Elephant will lock horns with Fovu Club of Baham in what promises to be an intense matchday 5 encounter of the Elite 2 championship.
ISOHSA heads into the game against Fovu Club placed second in Group A with 7 points, 2 wins and a draw. The team is currently unbeaten in the championship and sits one point behind leaders Bafmeng United. A win on Sunday would see ISOHSA potentially claim the top spot, reinforcing their ambitions for the season.
Fovu Club, on the other hand, has struggled to find their footing this season. The side was exempted on matchday 4 with their last encounter being a 1-all draw against Aigle Royal of the Menoua. Fovu currently sits 7th in Pool A, with 2 points, 2 draws and one defeat.
The 1-all stalemate against Aigle Royal of Menoua shows that despite their poor recently, they have the ability to disrupt stronger opponents, making them a side ISOHSA cannot underrate.
Victoria United Seeks Redemption
At 3:30 pm, all eyes will be turned to the Elite 1 battle as Victoria United, affectionately known as OPOPO, heads into the game against AS Fortuna following their 2-1 defeat away to Fauve Azur Elite in Yaounde. It has been a mixed bag of results for the defending Elite 1 champions who have recorded 3 wins, a draw and 2 defeats in their 6 games played so far.
Victoria United, who set the ambition this year of winning the Elite 1 championship is placed fifth on the unofficial classification table with 10 points, they trail league leaders Colombe Sportive by 4 points.
One of the things that the reigning champion will look to change will be the goals conceded. While they have consistently been finding the back of the net, they have equally been letting in goals, scoring 10 goals and conceding 8. The last time Victoria United played at home, the side conceded 4 goals against Panthere Sportive of Nde, a performance they will be eager to rectify against AS Fortuna this time around.
For AS Fortuna, the side is battling for consistency and to climb out of the relegation zone. The side sits in the relegation zone with 6 points, 2 wins and 4 losses. AS Fortuna has so far scored 6 goals and conceded 8, with their last game being a 1-0 loss to Stade Renard.
Despite their struggle, AS Fortuna poses a threat that Victoria United must not overlook. The side will take solace in OPOPO’s last home game and will know everything is possible this weekend.
The Limbe Centenary Stadium is thus this weekend set to remind everyone why Limbe is a hub for football passion in Cameroon as the matches promise to deliver thrilling moments and high stakes as Limbe’s teams seek crucial points in their respective leagues. Don’t miss out!
