- Joseph Feutcheu, president of Djiko FC, has resigned from all football activities in Cameroon, citing Samuel Eto’o’s leadership as destructive to the sport
- His grievances include FECAFOOT’s failure to distribute state subsidies, unpaid sponsorship funds, and alleged match-fixing schemes
- Djiko was relegated to the second division in 2022-2023 football season and risked relegation to the inferior division if it continued its streak of poor results
Joseph Feutcheu, the president of Djiko FC of Bandjoun, has decided to hang up his boots in Cameroonian football administration, tendering his resignation on April 7, 2025.
Feutcheu’s exit is akin to a captain abandoning ship, driven by frustration over what he describes as Samuel Eto’o’s “systemic destruction” of the sport under his tenure as FECAFOOT president
Feutcheu’s grievances include FECAFOOT’s failure to pass on state subsidies to clubs for three seasons, unpaid sponsorship funds from MTN, and alleged match-fixing schemes orchestrated through referee manipulation targeting dissenting club presidents.
He also slammed Eto’o for red-card-worthy actions like arbitrary suspensions of officials and sidelining clubs such as Bamboutos FC from continental competitions
The drama escalated during Djiko FC’s recent fixture against AS FAP. Trailing 1-0 and facing a controversial penalty in the 70th minute, Feutcheu stormed onto the pitch, instructing his players to abandon the game—a move that could see Djiko relegated if their losing streak continues
Feutcheu, a veteran player in football management for over 25 years, has vowed to return to the game once Eto’o is subbed out of FECAFOOT leadership.
Joseph Feutcheu’s departure is one of several high-profile exits from football, following grievances similar to those that led Henry Njalla Quan Jr. to resign. Many view resignation as a means to preserve their honor, given the current FECAFOOT executive’s reputation for imposing life bans and substantial fines on dissenting club presidents.
