Cameroon international defender Jean-Charles Victor Castelleto, 30 has arrived in St. Louis to join the national team camp ahead of their Matchday 9 and 10 fixtures in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Qatar Stars League centre-back, who plays for Al Duhail SC, touched down in St. Louis early Monday morning and immediately linked up with his teammates as preparations intensify for Wednesday’s crucial clash against Mauritius Island.
Castelleto, who was an unused substitute in Cameroon’s 0-1 loss to Cape Verde Islands last month, is expected to play a key role this time around. With Christopher Wooh and Enzo Boyomo suspended, head coach Marc Peter Brysis set to rely on the experienced defender to strengthen the backline.
The 30-year-old is expected to take part in Monday evening’s training session and could form a central defensive partnership with Michael Ngadeu Ngadjui for the game on Wednesday.
Cameroon’s centre-back options include Castelleto, Samuel Kotto, and Michael Ngadeu with the coach likely to select two for Wednesday’s encounter.
Since switching his international allegiance from France, where he represented the nation at youth level, to Cameroon in 2017, Castelleto has become a pillar of the Indomitable Lions’ defence.
He has earned 33 caps, featuring in major tournaments such as the FIFA Confederations Cup, Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), and the FIFA World Cup, where he notably scored against Serbia in a thrilling 3–3 draw.
A member of Cameroon’s squad at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and their third-place finish at the 2021 AFCON on home soil, Castelleto’s experience and leadership will be vital as the team looks to close the five-point gap separating them from group leaders Cape Verde Islands.
Cameroon will face Mauritius Island on Wednesday in St. Louis, before travelling for their Matchday 10 fixture against Angola on October 13 — matches that could prove decisive in their quest for World Cup qualification.
