-Vincent Aboubakar missed the Indomitable Lions’ final training on Sunday before their showdown with Guinea on Monday
-The striker’s injury could make him miss the opening match.
-The coach’s optimistic words in the prematch press conference did not clarify how long the striker will be sidelined.
Cameroon’s captain Vincent Aboubakar is doubtful for the Africa Cup of Nations opener against Guinea this Monday
The 2021 golden boot winner did not train with the team on Sunday, as they prepare for their showdown with Guinea .
He suffered a thigh injury in the previous training session and is undergoing treatment to recover in time for the other matches.
Aboubakar is the ace player for the Indomitable lions at the AFCON. It goes without saying that his absence would hurt the team’s chances, since he wears the armband and leads the scoring charts.
However, Rigobert Song in his prematch pres conference has promised the fans that the other players are fully committed to kick off the AFCON on a good foot
As soothing as this may sound, the uncertainty over Aboubakar’s return is however troubling. The Cameroon football federation insists it is a minor injury, but they have not given a clear timeline for his recovery.
It is worth noting that this will be Aboubakar’s second AFCON absence due to injury since his debut in 2015. When he was sidelined in 2019, Cameroon crashed out in the round of 16 to Nigeria.
