The Intermediate Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will enter a second and final training camp this Tuesday ahead of the 2022 African Nations Championship, CHAN to take place next January and February in Algeria.

Coach Alioum Saidou who had been in camp with his team for two weeks sent the players home for the Christmas break on Friday.

Ibrahim Abba and mates will return to the FECAFOOT headquarters in the early hours of this Monday December 26 and stay in camp till January 2.

The Cameroon delegation is expected to fly out on January 2 to a place where they will continue preparations till the start of the competition on January 13.

Alioum Saidou’s intermediate lions overturned a one goal deficit to sail through at the detriment of Equatorial Guinea, thanks to goals from Cotonsport’s duo Kaiba Djawal and Marou Souaibou.

Cameroon who were host CHAN 2021 and finished fourth are in group E of the upcoming tournament. One of the two groups of three Nations, alongside Niger who will be in their fourth participation and fellow central zone side, Congo, who will also be featuring for the fourth time.

Cameroon will be in the fifth participation in the competition, hoping to do better, after finishing fourth in the sixth edition of the event at home in 2021. The intermediate lions missed the 2009 and 2014 editions of the competition, but reached the quarter finals in 2011 and 2016.

CHAN 2022 will run from Friday, January 13, 2023 to Saturday February 4, 2023 in five venues across four host cities.

The president of the Confederation of African football CAF, Dr Patrice Motsepe, announced that there will be an increase in the prize money and improvements in the game across the continent.

Alioum Saidou and his staff could be eyeing better than the the all time best fourth place finish next year though in the absence of the Cameroon footballer of the year Marou Souaibou who has opted to join Orlando Pirates on the eve of this tournament.
