From Greece, Chile and China, The deaf Lions of Cameroon will now face Japan, 2008 bronze medalist France and lastly Iran for the 4th edition of the World Deaf football championship.
A fresh draw has been conducted for this quadrennial competition today September 18, after five countries backed out of the competition to be staged in Malaysia on September 23 to October 7.
Djappide Serge and teammates who are gearing up to leave for the host Country on Tuesday, September 19 will need to tighten their seat belts as the competition has gotten even stiffer.
Their first game will be against Two time participants Japan on Saturday, September 23 at the Stadium UKM at 8:30pm.
The Japanese federation of the deaf is emerging as a formidable force in the global arena. It has been investing heavily in the development and training of its athletes, as well as in the organization and infrastructure of the sport. With the 2025 deaflympics on the horizon, Japan is preparing to host and compete with excellence, posing a serious challenge to Cameroon and other countries.
France, who has once finished among the top three in this competition, will be Djappide Serge and teammates opponents on Day two, to be played on Monday, September 25.
Cameroons debutant status will be put to test by two – time participant Iran on Wednesday, September 27.
Despite this change, the Lions remain high-spirited and confident, their first appearance will leave a mark.
