The champions of the Cameroon Elite One championship, Coton Sport of Garoua now know their opponent for the first preliminary round of the CAF champions league.
In the draws conducted Tuesday July 25, 2023 at the CAF headquarters, the cotton weavers will clash with AS Real of Bamako Mali, in the first preliminary round of the CAF champions league.
Coton Sport will travel to Bamako, Mali for the first leg of the match that is expected to be played between the 18, 19 or 20th August 2023 and will play the return leg in Garoua, Cameroon between the 26, 27 or 28, August 2023.
Should Coton Sport qualify for the next and last preliminary round of the competition, they will face the winner of the match FC Nouadhibou of Mauritania versus Al Ahli SC of Libya.
Coton Sport of Garoua recently won a record 18th league title at the end of the 2022/2023 football season and they have recruited coach French coach, Daniel Bréard, as their lead gaffer ahead of the new season.
AS Real Bamako
Association Sportive du Real Bamako, commonly referred to as AS Real Bamako, has won the Malian Premier League 7 times with the recent being the 2022/2023 season.
The last time they appeared in the CAF champions league was in 2018 where they were eliminated from the competition in the preliminary round.
