AFCON 2023: Senegal and Nigeria suffer injury worries ahead of opener

With few hours to the opening match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), teams have been hit with injury worries ahead of their first games.

After the arrival of teams in Cote d’Ivoire, they have been traning with few players having knocks and doubtful for the tournament.

Holders, Senegal will be without one of their goalkeepers.

Seni Dieng have been ruled out of the competition leaving the Teranga Lions with three goalkeepers for the competiton.

They are now left with the trio of Edouard Mendy, Mory Diaw, and Alfred Gomis.

Aliou Cisse side will meet Cameroon, Guinea, and Gambia in Group C at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium, Yamoussoukro.

In a related development, Nigeria will be without Sadiq Umar as he has also been ruled of the competition due to injury after not taing part in the team second training in Abidjan on Thursday.

He has been replaced by Trabzonspor forward, Paul Onuachu.

AFCON 2023 gets underway on Saturday, January 13, 2023.
