Cote D’Ivoire captain, Franck Kessie is already looking forward to lifting the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title ahead of their opening match against Guinea Bissau.

The opening match of the tournament will see the two sides trade tackles at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Abidjan on Saturday, January 13, 2023.

The Al-Ahli midfielder hopes to lift the title on home soil.

“I am okay and alright. We have to write another story and history,” Kessie told journalists during a pre-match press conference.

“I have spoken with players like Mendy and Riyad Mahrez. At this tournament, we will see the best team.”

The Elephants last won the AFCON title in 2015 but are holding a seven-match unbeaten run ahead of Saturday’s encounter.

With the chance to win the title at home, Kessie wants to mark the presence of the tournament with a successful outing.

“I am the captain after Serge Aurier.” He continued. “We have won games previously and recently. Talking about the present, we are ready to mark the image presence of AFCON 2023 in Cote d’Ivoire.

“I will say that the team is strong and United abiding by the managers’ instructions. I believe we have the same objective which is to win this cup.” He concluded.

Guinea Bissau will hope to end their form of just two wins from their last five games including two losses and a draw.
