Nigeria midfielder, Alhassan Yusuf have been ruled out of the Nigeria’s senior men’s national team’s second Group A tie against host, Cote d’Ivoire at the Alassane Ouattara stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan on Thursday.
Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro confirmed this during his pre match press conference in Abidjan on Wednesday.
Yusuf started the opening match against Guinea Bissau which ended in a 1-1 draw before he was stretched off in the 69th minute of play.
He was replaced by Jo Aribo and Peseiro asserted that based on the knock, Yusuf will not play against Cote d’Ivoire.
“Yusuf is out of the game against Cote d’Ivoire,” Peseiro told journalists.
“The news came yesterdqy (Tuesday) but he is not ruled out of the tournament.”
He made his AFCON debut against Equatorial Guinea on January 14th 2024 in Côte d’Ivoire.
It was a debut match to be forgotten for Yusuf but he will hope to recover from the injury to play his role during his debut AFCON after replacing injured Wilfred Ndidi.
Super Eagles therefore will be without Yusuf for the crunchy tie on Thursday.
